This nickel belonged to the grandmother of the lady I acquired this piece from. Legend has it, the original owner attended a woman's shooting class in Piedmont North Carolina in or around 1917 and carried along this nickel. It is reported that this nickel was then shot by Annie Oakley herself, as was her custom to shoot small objects for souvenirs for the women that attended her women's shooting classes. It was alleged that she used an 1871 Marlin. The lady I acquired this coin from was living in Boone North Carolina at the time, but her grandmother was a native of Piedmont.
This is where Annie Oakley settled in her days after the wild west shows had come to an end. I obviously have not had this coin tested for anything other than it's authenticity as a 1910 Liberty v nickel, and it has obviously been shot. I cannot authenticate the past unfortunately, but all the promenance seems to be correct. I personally have owned this coin for over 40 years and believe the legend that comes with it. This is a rare and unique Annie Oakley shot 1910 silver V nickel/Piedmont N.
The silver V nickel is a highly sought-after item for collectors, and this piece is no exception. The intricate details and historical significance make it a must-have for any collection.
